Bluesky has added 1.5 million users over the past week as former President Donald Trump’s election victory prompted users to flee X, the platform owned by Trump ally Elon Musk.

In theory, Bluesky allows users to customise their feed by choosing the algorithm that drives what they see. It allows users to have website addresses as their handles which makes the interactions authentic as opposed to the swarm of bots on X. Additionally, it could act as a verification tool for public figures, athletes and journalists.

It's perhaps expected that Bluesky might have issues. Amid Musk's high-profile support for President-elect Donald Trump lots of users made an exodus for Bluesky. It skyrocketed to the top of Apple's App Store, adding approximately 100,000 users per day since last week's election.
