GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida quarterback DJ Lagway is “ready to play,” coach Billy Napier said Thursday on his weekly radio show. Napier removed Lagway from the team's injury report and penciled him in to start against No. 21 LSU in the Swamp on Saturday.

The Gators play their most important game of the year Saturday vs. LSU, and their quarterback's performance -- and health -- will go a long way toward determining their coach's future.

That set off the message board rumor mill that the word "changes" means the end of Napier as both head coach and play-caller for the Florida Gators in 2025. It could happen. But I would also respond with a quote from the esteemed Spanish philosopher George Santayana, "those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it."

Earlier in the season, calls for highly-touted freshman quarterback DJ Lagway to see the field were mostly out of curiosity. The Florida Gators had a returning veteran starter in Graham Mertz, but the promise of Lagway couldn't be ignored.
